Biomedical literature search

Search PubMed for the latest clinical studies, reviews, and abstracts. Returns citations and publication metadata.

Overview

The PubMed Search Expert gives agents access to the world’s largest biomedical literature database. It’s designed to help clinicians and clinical assistants surface relevant studies, reviews, and citations—especially in edge cases, novel treatments, or research-driven workflows.

This Expert is useful in settings where guideline references aren’t enough and deeper exploration is needed. It supports agents that justify off-label use, provide links to supporting trials, or help teams stay aligned with the latest clinical evidence.

How it works

The Expert queries PubMed based on natural language input, returning abstracts and metadata from peer-reviewed literature. It’s typically invoked when an agent detects an intent to validate a clinical claim, explore treatment alternatives, or reference current research during a conversation or note generation.

The returned content is source-linked and can be embedded directly into clinician-facing interfaces or used downstream by summarization agents.

Common use cases

  • Justify off-guideline clinical decisions with literature citations
  • Support second-opinion agents with evidence for rare or complex conditions
  • Equip documentation tools with references for academic or research charts
  • Build literature-backed explanation layers into decision-support agents

Configure

PubMed Search requires no paid subscription and works out of the box with Corti’s Reference Expert framework. You can define search behavior, filter by publication date or specialty, and limit access based on use case or geography through the Governance Layer.
